Laurieton Kennels had its beginning when we were first married and acquired our first pedigreed show dog, a male Boxer. A bitch soon followed and after our first litter, which was disastrous, the challenge to do better and learn more evolved.
Dogs of many breeds found their way into the kennel among them the beautiful Deerhound bitch Aust Ch Atlas Tam-O-Shanter a Hound Group winner in NSW and the fabulous gold Cocker Spaniel bitch Aust Ch Greenglen Sunflower, Best in the Gundog Group at the Pal International Show under Ern Froggatt (UK) and handled by our youngest daughter Kim who was then only 13 years old. Kim is now breeding her well known Giltedge Golden Retrievers.
Until we moved into Long Haired Dachshunds in 1987 our kennel was best known for our high achieving home bred Basset Hounds including All Breeds and Specialty Best in Show winners. Judy's interest in Dachshunds included a number of Standard Smooths over the years and it was not until her first Standard Long was acquired from Rhonda Phillip's Lohengrin Kennels that the interest in the Variety began in earnest. Rhonda and Judy imported the first American Champion Longhair (Boondox Jumping Jack Flash) into Australia resulting in an amazing improvement in the Variety virtually overnight. A second Long Hair import followed and our interest extended to Standard Wires with imports in that Variety establishing a solid gene pool with which to work.
Laurieton Kennels has continued to move forward over the years and we pride ourselves in our achievements.
